AB Volvo is a Swedish builder of commercial vehicles, including trucks, buses and construction equipment. Until 1999 it also produced cars. It also supplies marine and industrial drive systems, aerospace components and financial services. Although Volvo was incorporated in 1915 as a subsidiary of AB SKF, a Swedish ball bearing manufacturer, the auto manufacturer was officially founded on 14 April 1927, when the first car, the Volvo ÖV 4 series, rolled out of the factory in Hisingen, Gothenburg.

Volvo means "I roll" in Latin, conjugated from "volvere" (cp the ball bearing producer SKF). The name Volvo was originally registered in May 1911 as a separate company within SKF AB and as a registered trademark with the intention to be used for a special series of ball bearing, but this idea was only used for a short period of time and SKF decided to use "SKF" as the trademark for all its bearing products.

In 1924, Assar Gabrielsson, a SKF Sales Manager, and Engineer Gustav Larson, the two founders, decided to start construction of a Swedish car. Their vision was to build cars that can withstand the rigors of Sweden's rough roads and cold temperatures. This has become a feature of Volvo products ever since.

UD Trucks Corporation is a Japanese company whose principal business is the manufacture and sales of light, medium and heavy duty diesel trucks, buses, bus chassis and special-purpose vehicles. The company is owned 100% by the Volvo Group since 2007. Formerly known as Nissan Diesel, the company changed its name to UD Trucks on February 1, 2010. Already before the name change, the UD name was prominently displayed to separate the identity from that of their former owner Nissan Motors.

The UD name was originally used for the company's "Uniflow Scavenging Diesel" engine, developed in 1955, but is now marketed as meaning "Ultimate Dependability". On February 15, 2010 it was announced that UD Trucks had taken over the import and sales of Volvo trucks in Japan, as a consequence of Volvo's ownership.

Volvo back to Indonesia with XC-60

After two years of vacuum, September. Volvo will market one of their newest SUVs in Indonesia, the XC60 2.0T.

The XC60 will be imported from the assembly plan in Malaysia to make the price more competitive. since imports from Malaysia, will obtain duty-free facilities. This premium compact SUV, will be priced in the range of Rp800 million.

Volvo is ready to re-market their products in Indonesia. In the last two years of Volvo management is too busy working on the transition from Ford to Geely's management.

In the future Volvo SUV XC60 will compete with other European premium SUV like the BMW X1. Further, although assembled in Malaysia, the technology and features that are included in this car the same as those assembled in it's home country, Sweden. XC60 is equipped with a collision with a pedestrian deterrent (pendestrian detection) and the City Safety which won praise from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in the US.

This SUV can detect pedestrians who were heading to the street in front of the vehicle. Furthermore, drivers were warned and the brake the car will be operated in full automatic if the driver does not have enough time to respond. Detection of pedestrians with Full Auto Brake can avoid collisions with pedestrians at speeds up to 35 km / h if the driver does not react or have not had time to operate the brakes.

Another great security features is City Safety or security of the city. This feature works to monitor the motion of the car forward while walking slowly or stopped. In this situation the energy to put the brakes are calculated by computer. If the driver does not act, City Safety will work.

This feature is actively working under a speed of 30 km / hour. If the speed difference between the two vehicles is 15 km / h or less, the collision would certainly be avoided.
